Now that we know The Vampire Diaries is concluding with season eight, one giant question lingers: is original star Nina Dobrev going to return? Dobrev famously left the show at the end of season six, and let’s be honest, it hasn’t been the same without her. Along with a small group of journalists, we got to speak with creator Julie Plec about whether Dobrev will reprise the role of Elena, and here’s what she said.
“All I can say, because there is nothing written in stone, but Nina made me a promise when she left that she would come back and be part of the goodbye, and I intend on holding her to that, and I’m sure she intends on living up to it as well. We just have to figure it out: the how, the when, the what. But it would be a real tragedy if we couldn’t bring that story back around full-circle.”
After this comment from Plec, it would be a real shock if Dobrev bowed out of the final goodbye. Here’s hoping we see her and all those who have left Mystic Falls over the years back for season eight.

Vandaag was de Comic-Con Panel tijdens de San Diego Comic Con ter promotie van het achste en tevens laatste seizoen van ‘The Vampire Diaries’. Hierbij was Candice, Ian, Kat, Matthew, Micheal, Paul en schrijvers Kevin Williamson en Julie Plec bij aanwezig. Enkele foto’s staan al in de galerij de komende dagen zullen er nog meer verschijnen. On their way to stop Damon and Enzo’s west-coast killing spree, the Vampire Diaries gang on Sunday took a brief detour, hitting up San Diego Comic-Con for the CW drama’s (final!) panel.
Stars Ian Somerhalder, Paul Wesley, Kat Graham, Candice King, Zach Roerig, Matt Davis and Michael Malarkey were all on hand — along with executive producers Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson — to tease the impending events of Season 8, premiering Friday, Oct. 21 at 8/7c:
* An intro video, featuring that creepy hand from the Season 7 finale, teased: “This season, get ready to meet evil herself.” (That’s right, herself.)
* Kevin Williamson on returning to the writer’s room: “I’ve never been too far away. … As Julie and I sat down to write the first episode of Season 8 together, I was freaking out. … Julie was like, ‘You write all the Damon stuff.’ It came back pretty quickly, and I think we’ve got a great Season 8 planned out. It’s really nice to live in this world again.”

* As for what the aforementioned “evil” might be, Plec remained (mostly) tight-lipped: “The villain has a finger so far. … It’s a new take on villains for us. It’s rooted back all the way to ancient times.”
* Describing the new Season 8 villain as the “final bad,” Williamson noted that it’s a “cool way to infuse Mystic Falls with this ultimate evil. It’s like a cherry on top of the entire mythology of Mystic Falls.”
* Meanwhile, Somerhalder said, we’ll see “Damon and Enzo doing some gnarly s–t,” adding that “the mind control thing is actually quite interesting. … In their minds, they’re still them. That conflict and that struggle is what we always look for.”
* Sadly, Bonnie is “literally at ground zero” when Season 8 begins. “A lot of last season was about the development of the relationship Bonnie had with Enzo, and obviously Bonnie and Damon,” Graham said. “You saw the crumbling of her in the finale. She also doesn’t have her magic. The thing that made her feel like herself, and also her best friends, are not there. It’s going to be really exciting to see Bonnie’s journey this season.”
* Poor Stefan is “just crying, constantly,” Wesley teased. “[He’s] missing his bro, his bro-ham. It’s back to the original dynamic of the brothers. The dynamic was always Damon getting in trouble and Stefan trying to save him. … We’ll see how long that lasts, but for the current time, he has a broken heart over his big bro.”
* Caroline is “very busy” in Season 8, trying to maintain a connection with Alaric and the twins while also “helping Stefan and Bonnie track down Damon and Enzo.”
* As for everyone’s favorite human, Matt Donovan “had to make the decision to let go of that love [for the vampires].”

The Vampire Diaries will end with season 8
Tijdens ‘The Vampire Diaries’ panel op Comic-Con eerder van dag is aangekondigd dat het aankomende achste seizoen de serie laatste zal worden. Er gingen eerder al geruchten de ronde in de media maar is nu officieel bevestigd. In de onderstaande video praat de cast en crew over de het einde van de serie.

After eight years, six doppelgängers, two car accidents on Wickery Bridge, and countless witchy hijinks, The Vampire Diaries has an official expiration date.
During Saturday’s Comic-Con panel, showrunner Julie Plec announced season 8 will be the series’ last. An emotional goodbye video the cast put together for the fans, which can be seen above, was shown immediately following the announcement.
“The greatest honor you can have as a storyteller in the business of television is to be able to make those decisions with your peers and your fellow storytellers and we have all discussed it and we have made the decision that this is it,” Plec said. “This is going to be the final season. … It’s bittersweet and emotional and we’re going to be crying about this in a few minutes.” To the fans, she added, “You guys stuck with us. … You guys have been with us for this run, and it’s a beautiful run.”
The news won’t come as too big of a surprise for die-hard fans. Not only did series star Nina Dobrev exit at the end of season 6, but both Ian Somerhalder and Kat Graham have spoken out about the probable farewell in recent months.
But now, the question turns to how the series will say goodbye. Plec has spoken in the past about how she and co-creator Kevin Williamson came up with the series’ end way back in season 2. And even as recently as when Dobrev left, Plec said not much had changed. “The sentiment of what we wanted our characters to be feeling when the series was over I think has definitely remained the same; the execution of it will be obviously a bit different.”
But for fans panicked the series could end without Elena, Plec has always said that they’d love for Dobrev to return to tie up any loose ends for the young girl whose love story was the centerpiece of the show for so long. “Nina has always said that if there’s something for her to do in the series finale that she will be there to do it,” Plec told EW. “When she left, she said, ‘I want to see this character to its end at the end of the show, so I can’t wait to come back and put her to bed again.’”

Er is eindelijk nieuws over de San Diego Comic Con van dit jaar! En ook nu zullen enkele castleden van ‘The Vampire Diaries’ en ‘The Orignals’ naar de conventie gaan ter promotie van de nieuwe seizoenen!

Op 23 juli van 11:00 – 11:45 uur zal er tijdens de conventie een panel zijn. Waarin de castleden en producers vragen van het publiek beantwoorden en wat vertellen over het aankomende seizoen. De verwachting is dat er een eerste trailer te zien zijn.Wie gaan er van de cast?

De hoop is ook de Claire Holt dit jaar weer van de partij is :)Zodra er meer duidelijkheid is over de castleden die daadwerkelijk zullen gaan, zal dit op de website gepost worden, net als andere informatie gerelateerd aan de conventie.

‘The Vampire Diaries’ Casts Kristen Gutoskie; Christina Moses Joins ‘The Originals’
De eerste gastrollen voor het 8ste seizoen van ‘The Vampire Diaries’ en 4de seizoen van ‘The Originals’ zijn bekend. Actrice’s Kristen Gutoskie and Christina Moses die momenteel een rol hebben in de CW serie ‘Containment’ zullen een terugkerende rol spelen in de seizoenen.
Containment’s Kristen Gutoskie and Christina Moses will be staying in the CW fold, joining the casts of The Vampire Diaries and The Originals, respectively, in recurring roles.
Gutoskie will play Seline on the upcoming eighth season of The Vampire Diaries. Seline is described as a warm, nurturing nanny of two young kids by day, and a small-town girl trying to find her place in a dangerous world by night. Bonded to her new “family” in ways she can’t explain, Seline will fight desperately to protect the ones she loves.
Moses has joined Season 4 of drama The Originals as Keelin, a smart, strong resourceful ER doctor – and the last living werewolf of her line. Keelin is openly bisexual, warm and unguarded by nature; but after the rest of her family was hunted to extinction, she went into hiding and since then she’s deliberately avoided getting too close to anyone. She lives in fear of being discovered by the wrong people and has no idea that she’s currently on a collision course with the Mikaelsons.
Gutoskie plays Katie Frank in Containment, which was not renewed for a second season and airs its series finale on July 19. She previously had a series regular role on Beaver Falls and recurred on Republic of Doyle. She’s repped by Don Buchwald & Associates, Alchemy Entertainment and Premier Artists’ Management in Canada.
Moses, who plays Jana Mayfield in Containment, recently wrapped guest leads on Rosewood and Roadies, and has a lead role in indie How We Met. She’s repped by Dede Binder at Defining Artists and Eric Nelson at Nelson Management.

Releasedatum ‘The Vampire Diaries’ S8 bekend
CW heeft aangekondigd dat het achtste seizoen van ‘The Vampire Diaries’ zal zijn op vrijdag 21 oktober 2016. Dit keer zal ‘The Vampire Diaries’ opgevolgd worden door de serie ‘Crazy Ex-Girlfriend ‘.
En ‘The Orignals’ dan?
Het is nog niet bekend gemaakt wanneer het vierde seizoen ‘The Originals’ zal beginnen, naar verluid zal dit in een zogenoemde mid-season premiere worden. Waardoor de serie hoogstwaarschijnlijk pas begin 2017 weer zal beginnen :(. -
Seizoen 7 DVD cover bekend
Het is bekend geworden wat de cover van de Amerikaanse DVD/blu-ray boxset van ‘The Vampire Diaries’ zevende seizoen gaat worden, deze zal daar op 16 augustus verschijnen. Let op als je deze dan al wilt bestellen omdat de Amerikaanse DVD’s/Blu-rays een andere regio hebbben dan Europese DVD’s/Blu-rays en niet hier afspeelbaar zijn.
Het is nog niet bekend wanneer deze in Nederland verschijnt en of de boxset dezelfde cover zal hebben. Vorig jaar verscheen de boxset al in oktober maar voorgaande jaren was dit pas in december, wanneer er meer bekend is over een Nederlandse release dan post ik het op de website.

Nina had gastrol in seizoen 7!
Julie Plec heeft laten weten dat Nina een kleine gastrol had in seizoen 7. In één van de laatste afleveringen van het seizoen was ze kort te horen en deze audio heeft ze zelf opgenomen. Hiervoor vloog Nina enkele weken speciaal voor naar Atlanta waar de opnames van TVD plaatsvinden om die in te spreken, het was dus niet al eerder opgenomen materiaal dat hergebruikt was :D
Nina Dobrev surprised fans when she made a brief cameo in the season 7 finale of The Vampire Diaries…(kinda).
When Elena’s pleading voice was used as a way to lure Damon (Ian Somerhalder) into a trap set by the super creepy (and apparently powerful) Armory vault entity, fans weren’t sure whether Dobrev actually returned to record the new lines, or producers recycled old audio. As it turns out, the show’s former star lent her voice to the episode, stopping by the set to record ADR (automated dialogue replacement) and visit her old vamping grounds. “She chose to do it in person, which was great, because it was a nice little personal Nina visit,” the show’s executive producer, Julie Plec, said during an interview with TVLine.
