  • ‘Legacies’: Chris Lee Upped To Series Regular, Olivia Liang To Recur On The CW Drama

Chris Lee, who has recurred since the first season of the CW’s Legacies, has been promoted to series regular in season 2. Additionally, Olivia Liang (Dating After College) has been tapped for a recurring role.

Legacies is a spin-off of The Originals and features characters from both series and its predecessor, The Vampire Diaries. The series stars Danielle Rose Russell as 17-year-old Hope Mikaelson, descended from some of the most powerful vampire, werewolf and witch bloodlines. She attends the Salvatore School for the Young and Gifted, where fellow supernaturals learn to hone their skills.

Lee plays Kaleb, a rebel vampire who isn’t keen on hiding who he is.

Liang will portray Alyssa Chang, a Salvatore School student witch and infamous instigator of drama among her peers. Snarky, intelligent and egotistical, Alyssa is a main character in her own mind, and never backs down from a challenge or misses an excuse to show off.

Legacies is produced by Warner Bros. Television and CBS Television Studios in association with My So-Called Company, with executive producers Julie Plec (The Vampire Diaries), Brett Matthews (The Vampire Diaries), Leslie Morgenstein (The Vampire Diaries, Pretty Little Liars) and Gina Girolamo (The Originals).

Chris is currently recurring on The Chi and Empire both shooting in Chicago, and he recently did a sketch pilot presentation with Wayne Brady in LA. He’s repped by CAA and Mainstay Entertainment.

Liang’s previous credits include Dating After College, Grey’s Anatomy and One Day at a Time. She’s repped by Abrams Artists Agency and Authentic Talent and Literary Management

  • Chris Wood’s Kai Parker Is Officially Returning for Legacies Season 2

Legacies has dropped a lot of The Vampire Diaries Easter eggs into its first and second seasons, but the best one by far was when it hinted that Josie (Kaylee Bryant) and Lizzie Saltzman (Jenny Boyd) might be on the path to releasing their evil Uncle Kai (Chris Wood) from his prison world. And that seems more likely than ever now that Chris Wood is confirmed to return this season!

Entertainment Weekly reports that Wood will return as a guest star in Season 2, though there’s no word yet on how many episodes he will appear in. So far, TV Guide has confirmed Wood will appear in Episode 12, which is set to air in February.

Wood confirmed the news on Twitter later on Thursday, tweeting “Miss me?” with the mischievous devil emoji.

Ever since Josie and Lizzie found the ascendant they created as children to lock Kai away in his prison world back on The Vampire Diaries, we’ve been dreading but secretly hoping they’d use it to release Kai. In spite of the fact that he killed his whole family, the twins’ biological mother, and a bunch of randoms (or maybe because of it), it’s hard to name a more beloved villain from Legacies’ mother show. It’s impossible to say who or what will bring Kai back into the picture, but given his history with the Gemini coven and the curse of the merge, it’s likely the twins will eventually have to seek him out if they want to avoid their fate.

Showrunner Julie Plec previously hinted to TV Guide that Kai could return this season, saying, “I think when a key that would open the lock that is keeping evil Uncle Kai imprisoned shows up on your screen you should always be afraid … and also super, super psyched.”

Psyched is simply not a strong enough word for what we are. Bring on evil Uncle Kai!

  • Legacies’ Thomas Doherty Compares Sebastian and Lizzie to Gossip Girl’s Chuck and Blair

Being the new kid in town is hard. Being the new kid in town when you’re used to living in 15th century Europe is the actual worst. That’s the life poor Sebastian (Thomas Doherty) is living this season on Legacies, though.

We first heard of this enigmatic new time capsule vampire when Julie Plec told TV Guide about a new vampire who just so happened to get desiccated as a teenager centuries earlier. The supernatural rules regarding that particular predicament can be hard to understand, so to a newbie like Thomas Doherty, who had no prior experience with The Vampire Diaries universe, it was extra crazy to step into Sebastian’s shoes.

“I had a friend who is a male, and who is 24-years-old, and he was watching The Vampire Diaries… and he encouraged me to watch some,” Doherty told TV Guide. “So I did watch some of that and I can see how people get so hooked on it. It’s so entertaining. But then obviously when I got this, I did my research and I watched some Vampire Diaries, I watched The Originals, and then obviously caught up with Season 1 of Legacies. And yeah, as I said, it’s so addictive!”

Legacies Boss Compares Hope and Clarke to The Vampire Diaries’ Damon and Bonnie

Doherty isn’ the first innocent soul to be sucked into the addictive world Julie Plec created, and he won’t be the last, but it’s good to know he did his homework — especially considering we’re still so in the dark about where Sebastian came from. We have very few clues to work with so far, but Doherty revealed that we’ll get some answers in Episode 5 of this season.

As for now, we’ll have to settle for more simmering scenes with Lizzie Saltzman (Jenny Boyd), who Sebastian has already begun seducing. And even though their scenes together have already made shippers everywhere sigh with longing — Sebastian practically stepped right out of a romance novel, can you really blame them? — we’ve still got our eyes peeled for any clues that he might have ill-intentions towards the witch. According to Doherty, there’s more going on there than we might expect, but it might not be as nefarious as we worried.

“Sebastian’s initial attraction to Lizzie, that initial spark, does come from a past lover that Sebastian has had,” Doherty said. “So that’s a little bit of his background… I do think it is genuine, and I do also think that Lizzie does remind him of a past lover. She’s very intriguing to him, and he wants to know more about who this girl is.”

Poor guy, he might just be hurting over a lost lover from centuries ago. In that case, Lizzie sounds like the perfect girl to help heal those wounds.

Unfortunately, this relationship might have its fair shares of ups and downs. Jenny Boyd called it a lust/hate relationship and seemed to think Sebastian could be the new Damon Salvatore. Doherty, on the other hand, made another, just as juicy, CW comparison when it came to Sebastian and Lizzie’s romance.

“I always say, it’s a bit like Marmite, you love it or you hate it, and that’s Sebastian,” Doherty said. “I think it can be similar to something like Chuck (Ed Westwick) and Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester) in Gossip Girl — that kind of tense friction kind of relationship, but highly entertaining.”

If these two are anything like Chuck and Blair, they’ve got a long and complicated romance ahead of them that may or may not end in tears. Either way, we’re definitely along for the ride!
