  • Ian interview

For Ian Somerhalder it’s good being the bad guy. The new season of “The Vampire Diaries” premieres tonight on the CW, and Somerhalder, a former cast member on “Lost,” has become a breakout star in his role as Damon Salvatore, a handsome, anti-heroic vampire who sometimes shows a softer side.

In real life, Somerhalder, a native of Covington, Louisiana, recently helped launch Go Green Mobile Power, a company that provides solar, wind and biodiesel mobile energy generators. Somerhalder says he’s been inspired to take more action in his life after meeting spiritualist Deepak Chopra, whom he calls his “new bff.”

The Wall Street Journal spoke to Somerhalder about his role on the show, and what the coming season has in store.

Speakeasy: What can we look forward to from Damon this season?

Ian Somerhalder: Some changes. Changes in the sense that in the season finale, Damon raised the question that he came to this town with the intention of destroying everyone and now [things have changed]. He started building relationships and when we forge relationships, we raise the stakes, and I think having said that he’s not as hell bent on destroying the town this season. He and his brother are going to discover a few problems, outside of Elena, and they’re going to have to bind together to protect what they love and to protect each other.

  • Katerina over Salvatore broers

Now that evil vampire Katherine is back in Mystic Falls, Nina Dobrev is getting a chance to show off her dark side — and she’s taking her rage out on Katerina Graham’s Bonnie! “It’s very odd to have one of your best friends suddenly grabbing your neck,” Katerina tells HollywoodLife.com exclusively about her face-off against Nina. “But she’s playing a character and doing a great job.”

I can imagine it would feel odd, especially considering how close all the cast members are when the cameras stop rolling! Katerina tells us she recently went out with a bunch of her co-stars — including Nina, Steven R. McQueen, Sara Canning and Candice Accola – for a joint birthday celebration (Katerina recently turned the big 2-1, while Steven turned 22.)

But there is one question even Katerina can’t seem to answer: Which Salvatore brother she prefers, Paul Wesley’s Stefan or Ian Somerhalder’s Damon!

“I like really intense, smart guys like Stefan could be,” she tells us. “But also playful, funny and sarcastic like Damon. Very daring. I’d take them both. I’m greedy!”

We certainly can’t blame Katerina for not being able to choose between the vampire brothers. Fortunately, HollywoodLifers, you don’t have to choose! You can have Stefan, Damon and the entire Mystic Falls crew when The Vampire Diaries returns for its second season at 9 p.m. TONIGHT (Sept. 9) on The CW.

  • TVFanatics interviewt Katerina

Katherine’s return may have been the highlight of the season one finale, but Vampire Diaries viewers should not forget about the transformation of Bonnie.

This character finally embraced her status as a witch and made it very clear to Stefan: don’t mess with me. In an exclusive TV Fanatic interview, Katerina Graham talked about what’s ahead for Bonnie on season two…

Talk about the concluding scene of “Fool Me Once.”
That was a tough scene. They say art imitates life; it’s just a little theory. My grandmother had died that week and I had come from the funeral the day before that scene. I was a mess. Literally, it wasn’t Elena holding Bonnie, it was Nina holding Kat in that scene. I think that’s why it felt so real. Nina was the only person that I told, since I really didn’t want to be anywhere except with my mom. It was really tough, but I wanted to bring life to the writing and the heart of work of the cast and crew put it in. I’m glad people see that in it… It completely changed Bonnie and made her realize that if she had just said “no” from the beginning and stood up for herself that her grandmother might have still been alive, and that effects the rest of her choices when it comes to dealing with the vampires. Her resentment for taking away someone even though Damon just wanted Katherine, and it wasn’t specifically his fault, it was definite tied to it. If he hadn’t of made such a grave demand, everyone would still be alive.

  • TVFanatics interviewt Sara

Her niece is in love with a vampire and her nephew wants to become a vampire.

Indeed, it should be an interesting season ahead for Aunt Jenna on The Vampire Diaries, as Sara Canning spoke to TV Fanatic this week about her role, season two – and her ultra sexy co-star. Excerpts follow…

Ian Somerhalder was named Entertainment Weekly’s Sexy Beast. How does it feel to work on set with a sexy beast now?
Isn’t that crazy? Mad props and respect to Robert Pattinson, but I was like “wow, this is a big deal.” There are a few vampires that people are in love with. I think people love Ian for different reasons. I think people really love the character of Damon, and its nice to see a vampire be allowed to be a badass because we’re seeing a lot of vampire love stories, and vampires trying to grab hold of the humanity they have left and find their human qualities. It’s refreshing to watch a destructive force like Damon. I think Ian’s perfect for the role. He’s one of the most charming people you’ll meet and then he can just turn on that crazy side as well.

  • Ian over seizoen 2

‘The Vampire Diaries’ could easily have been written off as just another CW teen show, but the sexiness of the cast instantly took it to extremely watchable status. Alongside Nina Dobrev and Paul Wesley, star Ian Somerhalder is responsible for a third of that sex appeal … at least.

After a first season of some high highs (tricking his way into his brother’s relationship with Elena) and very low lows (getting duped by the vampire who turned him), Somerhalder’s bad boy bloodsucker Damon Salvatore is in a very dark place in Season 2.

I caught up with Somerhalder to hear all about playing vulnerable, which of his castmates he has a blast shooting with, who Damon might find “useful” this season and the pretty racy scene fans have been waiting for.

  • Sara’s interview met Starry Magazine

    Q) What are the recent projects that you are working on?

    A) Right now it is all about “The Vampire Diaries.” We’re in kind of an intense shooting schedule here in Atlanta. We just started shooting our fifth episode so everybody is just kind of gung-ho about our second season. I’ve also been doing a lot of promoting a Canadian indie film I did last year in between shooting “The Vampire Diaries” pilot and the show being picked up, with me moving to Atlanta. I shot a Canadian gothic period piece that has been doing very well in Canada and the film festival circuits, which is called Black Field.

    Q) What is new this season on “The Vampire Diaries” and with your character Jenna Sommers?

    A) I think one of the biggest things that the viewers are looking forward to is the return of Katherine. You have seen the tense moment at the end of season one and that will definitely be addressed in the first episode. I think that’s really going to effect every character. We’ve seen Jenna let Katherine (Nina Dobrev) into the house so she’s sort of been a catalyst for everything that is about to go down. I think that is going to play a big part for Jenna, how she is going to deal with Katherine being around and her not knowing who she is. Matt Davis and I were also working together at the later part of the first season and we’ve seen a lot of stop and start with a relationship developing between them. They got stuck, but there is so much chemistry between them. There are so many other factors that aren’t letting things be easy for them. We get to see things grow between them, maybe in a positive way, but I don’t think it will ever be easy for them. The fact that Alaric, unbeknownst to Jenna, has an alliance with a group of vampires that her niece is involved with…That alone puts a stress on the relationship since there are a lot of secrets. • Zapit interview met Ian

On the Sept. 9 Season 2 premiere of “The Vampire Diaries,” the Salvatore brothers find themselves in a familiar situation.

They’re once again fighting over a woman. In 1864, Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Stefan (Paul Wesley) were torn apart by their mutual obsession with Katherine (Nina Dobrev). Now, despite having 150 years to learn from their mistakes, they’ve both fallen for the less lethal (but equally gorgeous) Elena.

“Love makes you stupid,” Somerhalder tells me, by way of explanation, during Zap2it‘s exclusive visit to the show’s Atlanta set. “Just like wars, famine, the BP oil spill, we have the attention spans of a mosquito, and we don’t remember what made us unhappy in history.” (meer…)

  • IGN interview met Nina

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know. This is IGN. We appeal to guy’s stuff. But I’m here to tell you, if you haven’t been watching, The Vampire Diaries is a really cool show. What looked like a Twilight clone when it first began quickly evolved into a complex, layered story with a ton of surprising twists and turns and a very detailed and involving mythology.

Playing not one but two key components to that mythology is Nina Dobrev. The actress has the lead role as the human Elena, but also has had the opportunity to play Katherine, the evil vampire who started the whole story by turning brothers Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) into vampires in 1864. Katherine had previously appeared only in flashbacks, until the shocking Season 1 finale revealed she had returned to the town of Mystic Falls – and was quickly up to her old, bloody tricks.

I had the opportunity to speak to Dobrev about the new season ofVampire Diaries, which premieres this Thursday, and the challenges and rewards of playing two characters simultaneously.

IGN TV: So suffice to say, Katherine is going to be stirring up a lot of trouble as we begin Season 2?

Nina Dobrev: Yes, Katherine is most definitely back. She’s back and she’s going to wreak havoc. The thing about Katherine is she’s so spontaneous and unexpected. You can’t really get into her mind to figure out what she’s up to, because if she doesn’t want you to know, you’re not going to find out. She does everything for her own amusement and own entertainment. Screwing with people and messing with their minds and playing with them is the most fun for someone who’s been on the earth for however many hundred years. You get bored of the regular grind, so why not come back and visit and ex or two, and a new girlfriend, and stir up the pot?

  • BuzzSugar Interview met Katerina Graham

Just in time for The Vampire Diaries’ second season premiere, I chatted with Katerina Graham, who plays Bonnie on the series. She spilled the beans on whom she thinks Elena should be with and a possible love connection between Bonnie and a certain sexy vampire (though she played it very, very coy). Graham dished on the new werewolves, and also revealed her fever for a young man named Justin Bieber.

BuzzSugar: What are you most excited about in the upcoming season?
Katerina Graham: I’m really excited about the season premiere, honestly. There have been so many episodes shot after that — we’re on episode six — but I’m really dying to see the season premiere, I’m just dying!

Buzz: Has it been weird acting with Nina Dobrev as Katherine and Elena now?
KG: No! Nina’s always great to do scenes with, and just because she’s a new character she’s still very much Nina Dobrev, still very much that person to work with. She’s handling Katherine really really well.

Buzz: I’ve noticed some sexual tension between Damon and Bonnie.
KG: I don’t know what you’re talking about.

  • Popwatch: Ian over seizoen 2

The Vampire Diaries has been good to Ian Somerhalder: It earned him a spot on Entertainment Weekly’s 2009 list of TV’s Best Bitches and the title of Sexiest Beast in this summer’s popular EW.com bracket game, which saw readers rack up more than 1.5 million votes while whittling the 64-deep field down to his devilishly delicious Damon Salvatore and Twilight‘s saintly sensitive Edward Cullen. Shortly after his victory last month, we caught up with a humbled and grateful Somerhalder, who was already feeling the pressure that comes with the crown…

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Congratulations on Damon being named the ultimate Sexy Beast.
IAN SOMERHALDER: [Laughs] That is so cool.

  • Interview met Sara

If you ask us, it seems there are two types of “Vampire Diaries” fans: those who want to see Elena (Nina Dobrev) end up in the steady arms of Stefan (Paul Wesley) and those who want to see her fall hard for bad boy Damon (Ian Somerhalder). (To be fair, there’s probably a very, very small contingent rooting for ex Matt, but we’re not going to go there.) No matter where your allegiances lie in the Elena-Stefan-Damon triangle, I think we can all agree on one couple we want to see go the distance: Elena’s Aunt Jenna (Sara Canning) and teacher-by-day, vampire-hunter-by-night Alaric Saltzman (Matthew Davis). So when we spoke with Sara in anticipation of season 2′s premiere (two more days!), we just had to ask about the pair’s future.

Unfortunately, Sara is almost as in the dark about the couple’s destiny as we are, even though they have shot scenes together for the upcoming season. “I think the audience and Matt and I have been waiting to see what is going to happen with them because it’s been so stop and start,” she said. “It’s been really kind of a cool development for Jenna because we see her meeting this new guy and recognizing that he could be really good for her. But she’s given up old habits and she’s not going to chase him down.”
