Another Decade Together: Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder Talk Their Newly Launched Bourbon Brand Brother’s Bond
Since playing on-screen brothers, the former ‘The Vampire Diaries’ stars explore the next phase of their lives together — this time, as business partners.
For Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder, their mutual love of bourbon — much like their brotherly bond — has been over a decade in the making.
The former co-stars turned business partners are famed for their portrayal as vampire brothers Stefan and Damon Salvatore on The CW’s franchise hit The Vampire Diaries. But Wesley and Somerhalder’s on-screen brotherhood extends far beyond the eight-season run of the show that catapulted them to stardom.
When they weren’t playing blood-thirsty vampires on-screen, Wesley and Somerhalder were building a thirsty tradition of their own — drinking bourbon, of course, off-set after hours.
“So we could tolerate each other off-screen,” Wesley jokes.
A Louisiana native, Somerhalder grew up surrounded by the culture of Southern whiskey. “I’ve been drinking bourbon for 25 years,” the actor says. “It pumps through my veins.”
So, after over a decade of drinking together, Wesley says that creating their own bourbon “felt like an incredibly organic thing to do.”
And so began their journey to creating Brother’s Bond Bourbon — a passion project that has seen Wesley and Somerhalder through the next stage of not only their professional relationship, but their friendship, as well.
The pair — “attached at the hip,” says Wesley, in their Vampire Diaries days — are now in the midst of what they call their “2.0” phase of life. “This is gonna be another decade together,” Somerhalder says.
For the target audience of their new product, they’re looking to extend beyond that of their TVD following — the show, which ended in 2017, was the 15th most-streamed series of 2020, according to Nielsen’s yearly rankings — and into the homes of bourbon connoisseurs and new whiskey drinkers alike.

Up for the Challenge! How Claire Holt Remotely Filmed ‘Untitled Horror Movie’: It Was ‘Tricky’
A horrifying undertaking? Not so much. Claire Holt and her costars rose to the challenge when they were tasked with filming themselves for their new comedy, Untitled Horror Movie. The Nick Simon-directed movie came together amid the pandemic while the cast worked from their homes to comply with social distancing.
For Holt, 33, the process had its advantages. “At the time, I was pregnant. It was a perfect opportunity because I was in control of all of the framing and I could easily shoot my stomach out, which was a nice thing,” the actress exclusively told Us Weekly. “But most importantly, I really loved the script, and I loved that Nick and [writer] Luke [Baines] had created this world that was accessible in a pandemic, but we didn’t reference it at all because I think everyone’s got pandemic fatigue. It’s been a really long, hard year for everyone. So we wanted to shoot something that worked in the confines of the world we were living in, but also light and fun and entertaining, which was the ultimate goal.”
Untitled Horror Movie tells the story of six costars who learn that their TV show is about to be canceled. Before facing unemployment, they decide to shoot their own scary movie, only to find out they’ve summoned a dark spirit.
The film also stars Baines, 34, Kal Penn, Darren Barnet, Timothy Granaderos, Katherine McNamara, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Kevin Daniels, Lesly Kahn, Sohm Kapila and Aisha Tyler.
“There were so many elements that came together. I was so excited to work with the rest of the cast and I was also just really interested in challenging myself technically in terms of figuring out the lighting and the camera and the sound and all of the things that go into filmmaking that usually I don’t have any sort of input in or any expertise in,” the Vampire Diaries alum continued. “Everyone was really flexible and the director of photography, Kevin Dugan, is amazing. He could talk us through all of the insane, crazy aspects of setting up the shot and how to light it and what would work best visually for the film. So we figured it out.”
Although the cast didn’t have a crew watching them, Holt came close to an audience — thanks to her son, James, who was 12 months at the time. (She and husband Andrew Joblon also welcomed daughter Elle last year.)
“It was kind of tricky to figure out where I was going to be able to film in the house that was going to be quiet and that he wasn’t going to barge into every five seconds. And also, we shot a lot at nighttime. I wasn’t able to just scream at the top of my lungs or yell at three in the morning. So I was a little limited in terms of where I could shoot in my house,” she explained to Us. “I ended up shooting in one of our guest bedrooms, most of it, and then a little bit outside in the living area, but it worked.”
Playing Kelly was a “fun experience” for Holt, especially because she and her castmates could relate to their characters.
“It’s amazing because we got to talk about all of the things that you don’t normally discuss. What it’s like to be an unemployed actor and what it’s like on a TV show. And we get to really enhance these characters that a lot of us met in our lives,” she said. “And I got to play this really kind of snarky, sarcastic and fun character Kelly, which it’s not something I get to do often. I don’t really do comedy so much.”

Actor Ian Somerhalder took to Instagram this weekend to praise his wife Nikki Reed on her 33rd birthday by revealing a very personal chapter in their lives.
The star said he found himself in a “terrible business situation” while shooting “The Vampire Diaries,” which led to Reed spending two years of her life getting Somerhalder out of debt.
“Before Nik and I got together I built a company while shooting ‘TVD’ that was important to me,” Somerhalder wrote. “I invested heavily, I made huge personal guarantees to banks. However due to greed and fraud within that company and fraudulent activities from our biggest customer, not to mention the temporary collapse of the oil and gas industry — I was left in an EIGHT- FIGURE hole.”
Somerhalder, 42, said that time in his life was “a true nightmare day in and day out.”
The actor said he had to travel the world weekly to pay “massive” six-figure banknotes. He said it led to him being in the hospital four times over a two year period, but did not explain the nature of his hospitalizations. Then the “Twilight” star came to his rescue.
“This woman here decided that she didn’t want to see her husband ruin his body/mind/spirit and pulled up her bootstraps and got down in the trenches assembling a team to get to the negotiating table to find a way out,” he wrote.
“I am where I am BECAUSE of this woman,” Somerhalder continued, highlighting his new venture, Brothers Bond Bourbon. “I was able to start my life over because of this woman.”
Somerhalder and Reed were married in 2015. Their daughter, Bohdi Soleil, was born in 2017.

Torrey verlaat Chigago Med
Torrey heeft besloten de serie ‘Chigago Med’ na 6 seizoen te verlaten.
Chicago Med actress Torrey DeVitto on Wednesday addressed her impending exit from the NBC drama in a heartfelt message to fans.
“All good things must come to an end,” she wrote on Instagram, less than an hour after news broke that both she and co-star Yaya DaCosta would not be returning for Season 7. “It has been such an honor and pure joy to bring Dr. Natalie Manning to life for all of you on Chicago Med for the past 6 seasons. But it is now time for me and her to bow out and say goodbye.
“Thank you to all you loyal watchers who adored her as much as I did,” DeVitto added. “I can’t wait to share what’s to come with all of you. New adventures await!”
Both actresses, DeVitto as Dr. Manning and DaCosta as nurse April Sexton, have walked the halls of the Gaffney Chicago Medical Center since the Dick Wolf-produced drama debuted on NBC in 2015. The characters have significant ties to the other shows in the One Chicago universe, appearing in several episodes of Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D.
The rest of the Chicago Med cast — S. Epatha Merkerson as Sharon Goodwin, Oliver Platt as Dr. Daniel Charles, Nick Gehlfuss as Dr. Will Halstead, Brian Tee as Dr. Ethan Choi and Marlyne Barrett as nurse Maggie Lockwood — are all expected to return for Season 7, though their contracts are currently being negotiated.

Torrey aan het daten met David Ross
Torrey is aan het daten met David Ross, de manager van Chigago Cubs en voormalig baseball speler.
ew couple alert! Torrey DeVitto revealed she’s dating Chicago Cubs manager David Ross — and she’s definitely into the new romance.
“Love him madly,” the Chicago Med star, 36, wrote via Instagram on Saturday, May 8, alongside a black and white photo showing her kissing the Dancing With the Stars alum, 44, on the cheek. She also referred to Ross as her “boyfriend” in an Instagram comment on a recent selfie. In the same post, she drew a heart around his head.
“My boyfriend’s team was playing in Cincinnati this weekend!” DeVitto wrote. “The river walk was beautiful! Loved it!”
Friends and fans were eager to share their excitement for the new couple.
“Oh well, look at that…Home Run!” actress Margaret Colin commented on the photo. “Omg this makes me SO happy! You have no idea how much my family LOVES him ❤️❤️❤️,” Rachel Melvin added.
Most recently, the New York native was dating Will Estes. While the former couple didn’t formally announce their breakup, all photos of each other have been deleted from their social media accounts. The Vampire Diaries alum and Blue Bloods actor had confirmed their romance in October 2020.
“We like to keep pretty private about our plans and what we do and stuff. So I don’t want to speak too much on it, but yeah, it’s pretty incredible,” DeVitto told Us Weekly at the time.
The former baseball player, for his part, was previously married to Hyla Ross. The pair wed in 2005 and share three children: Cole, Landri and Harper. David confirmed his divorce had been finalized in February 2020 during an interview with the Chicago Sun-Times.
Last fall, the Chicago P.D. star told Us that it’s important whoever she dates shares her passion for advocacy.
“I don’t think I’d be able to connect with somebody who didn’t have a passion of either giving back or wanting to use their good to help the world in whatever way they could,” she said. “We’re in such dire times that it’s like, if you can turn a blind eye to anything that’s going on with the planet, with other human beings, with animals, then to me, it’s like, I don’t know that there would be much for me to connect on.”

Danielle gecast in nieuwe film ‘Share’
Melvin Gregg (The United States vs. Billie Holiday), Bradley Whitford (The Handmaid’s Tale), Alice Braga (The Suicide Squad) and Danielle Campbell (Tell Me a Story) have signed on to star in Share, an innovative sci-fi pic from The Traveling Picture Show Company, Wavemaker Creative and award-winning commercial director Ira Rosensweig.
Scripted by Benjamin Sutor, Rosensweig’s debut feature follows a man who awakens to find himself stripped of all his possessions, and trapped in a bare room. Aided by a primitive computer, he must learn to survive in his new isolated existence where entertainment is the only currency.
While the actors’ roles have not been disclosed, we hear the indie will be brought to life using “unique and immersive” filmmaking techniques. Given that each character in the story is physically isolated, the shoot (which is currently underway) called for the construction of multiple identical sets with integrated camera systems, teleprompters, and live event technology. The system designed for the project allows the actors to fully interact both with each other and the computer interface central to the story in real time, while giving the director and crew a precise pre-visualization of the finished product.
Kevin Matusow and Carissa Buffel of TPSC are producing Share alongside Rosensweig. Executive producers include Gregg, INE Entertainment’s Eric Day, Five All in the Fifth’s Douglas Banker, Underground’s Trevor Engelson, Steven Chester Prince, Thomas Giamboi, Bruce Cummings, Jeff Stevens and Tyler Neenan.
Best known for his turn as Manboy on FX’s Snowfall, Gregg recently appeared in Season 2 of Netflix’s mockumentary American Vandal, as well as Hulu’s Oscar contender The United States vs. Billie Holiday, Warner Bros’ The Way Back and Netflix’s High Flying Bird. His TV credits also include Hulu’s Freakish and Lifetime’s Unreal, and he will next be seen in Hulu’s Nine Perfect Strangers, an adaptation of the latest book by Big Little Lies author Liane Moriarty.
A three-time Emmy winner, Whitford’s TV credits include The West Wing, The Handmaid’s Tale and Transparent. On the film side, he has appeared in Jordan Peele’s Get Out, Steven Spielberg’s The Post and many more. Whitford, who recently wrapped production on Lin-Manuel Miranda’s feature tick, tick…Boom!, can currently be seen in Handmaid‘s Season 4.
A native of Brazil, Braga recently lent her voice to Oscar-winning Pixar feature, Soul. On the TV side, the actress currently stars in USA Network’s drama, Queen of the South. She also recently appeared in the HBO series We Are Who We Are, from Luca Guadagnino. Up next, she will appear opposite Margot Robbie, Idris Elba and Viola Davis in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad.
On the small screen, Campbell appeared in Aaron Kaplan’s thriller Tell Me a Story opposite Billy Magnussen, Paul Wesley and Kim Cattrall; the CW”s The Originals; and Freeform’s Famous in Love. Her feature credits include Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Witness Protection, Disney’s Prom and more.
Gregg is represented by CAA and 3 Arts Entertainment. Whitford is repped by ICM Partners and Greenlight Management. Braga is repped by WME. Campbell is repped by ICM Partners, Luber Roklin Entertainment and Industry Entertainment. Sutor is repped by Underground. Rosensweig is repped by ICM Partners.

Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley Launch New Brother’s Bond Bourbon Whiskey
The ‘Vampire Diaries’ stars’ new four-grain whiskey has only been available for a few days online — and it’s already one of the toughest bottles to get your hands on
If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, Rolling Stone may receive an affiliate commission.
ONE MORNING EARLIER this spring near Los Angeles, Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley are Zooming in from their new office space while, they explain, construction is going on outside. The veteran Vampire Diaries stars, who played the Salvatore brothers on the popular CW show, aren’t on set to film anything right now — instead, they’re gearing up to release the new, highly-anticipated whiskey they co-founded, called — what else? — Brother’s Bond Bourbon.
For a whiskey that few have tried yet, it’s already proving to be a smash-hit. The four-grain bourbon whiskey hit record numbers when it went on pre-order on the site ReserveBar in fall 2020 and in early 2021. And now, whiskey lovers can finally buy a bottle online (when the site can keep it in stock).
Creating the whiskey from the ground up has been a labor of love for the duo, and it became another chance to work together following their run on eight seasons of one of the hottest series on TV (the complete series is available now on Amazon) The market for celeb liquor brands seems to be getting more crowded by the minute, but as the two telling Rolling Stone, this new release is made for bourbon lovers, by bourbon lovers.
“There’s a lot of alcohol brands out there and more specifically, in recent years, there’s been a real surge of sort of quote-unquote ‘celebrity-endorsed brands,’ whether it’s a musician or an actor or an athlete,” Wesley says. “And, I think the thing that really distinguishes us…”
“Where do you fall?” Somerhalder interrupts. “You’re a celebrity? Are you calling yourself a celebrity?”
“I was more referring to you,” Wesley says.
Jokes aside, this whiskey has been years in the making for the two actors.
“I think the thing that distinguishes us is that Ian and I, we drank bourbon on the television show that we did and we fell in love with it,” Wesley says. “We shot the show in the South. Our characters drank bourbon on the show. We drank bourbon off-screen. We bonded on-screen, we bonded off-screen drinking bourbon, and so when the show ended, we had been talking about creating a bourbon for years. When the show ended, it was just the perfect time to do it. And so everything you see here, the label, the bottle, the name…”
“Obviously the liquid,” Somerhalder adds.
“… and certainly the mash, it’s all our creation, everything,” Wesley says. “We put this thing together and so for us, it’s just felt incredibly organic.”
The release of Brother’s Bond has been a long time coming. And recently, Somerhalder and Wesley had to be in constant virtual communication when working through the pandemic leading up to the May launch date.
“There’s thousands of messages a week,” Somerhalder says. “We are never not in contact. I mean, there’s not a 20-minute space in time that goes by that we’re not in contact with either each other or our team, which is pretty wild.”
“I just send him selfies, nothing to do with bourbon,” Wesley jokes.
Somerhalder continues. “But for two dudes who spent eight years together, literally 10 months a year, every day, to then be this connected, it was a mistake. [laughs] But the bourbon is fucking great.”
Brother’s Bond Bourbon is an 80-proof straight bourbon that some, including this whiskey drinker, might sum up as an incredibly smooth, super drinkable spirit, tasty enough that whiskey lovers will want to pour it neat or on the rocks. But as Wesley and Somerhalder point out, you can find a list of drink recipes on their site if you’re craving a whiskey cocktail, too, from a classic Brother’s Fashioned to a simple Brother’s Julep.
“For two dudes who spent eight years together, literally 10 months a year, every day, to then be this connected, it was a mistake. But the bourbon is fucking great.”
The name “Brother’s Bond Bourbon” is, of course, a nod to their Vampire Diaries characters, with a label that shows two people sitting under a tree. But the guys say the theme goes well beyond just the show.“Our characters bonded on-screen over bourbon,” Somerhalder says, “he and I bonded off-screen over bourbon, and now to think that new bonds — random people meeting — [to] old bonds, families, friends, brothers, sisters, dads, moms, aunts, uncles getting to just have conversations, holding our bourbon in their hands… that’s pretty special, man, you know?”
Brother’s Bond Straight Bourbon Whiskey is available now to order on ReserveBar.
