Now that we know The Vampire Diaries is concluding with season eight, one giant question lingers: is original star Nina Dobrev going to return? Dobrev famously left the show at the end of season six, and let’s be honest, it hasn’t been the same without her. Along with a small group of journalists, we got to speak with creator Julie Plec about whether Dobrev will reprise the role of Elena, and here’s what she said.
“All I can say, because there is nothing written in stone, but Nina made me a promise when she left that she would come back and be part of the goodbye, and I intend on holding her to that, and I’m sure she intends on living up to it as well. We just have to figure it out: the how, the when, the what. But it would be a real tragedy if we couldn’t bring that story back around full-circle.”
After this comment from Plec, it would be a real shock if Dobrev bowed out of the final goodbye. Here’s hoping we see her and all those who have left Mystic Falls over the years back for season eight.
